Two drinking levels, one cleaning routine: is the Drinkwell Multi-Tier worth the space?
The PetSafe Drinkwell Multi-Tier pet fountain is worth considering if you want an upper drinking bowl and a lower one in a single station. For a small home, the deciding question is whether those drinking options justify the floor space and the cleaning routine. If a plain bowl already works well for your pet, this is an optional change, not an essential upgrade.

We researched the 100-ounce PetSafe Drinkwell Multi-Tier, model PWW00-13708, using the manufacturer’s product and maintenance information and the matching Amazon listing on October 29, 2026. We have not tested it. Our view: consider it for the choice of drinking positions; skip it if you want the simplest possible washing routine. Pump noise, long-term durability and your pet’s willingness to use it remain untested.
What the Drinkwell Multi-Tier includes
PetSafe specifies a 100-ounce capacity, BPA-free plastic construction, an upper and lower bowl, and one falling stream. It is a plug-in fountain with a submersible pump and non-adjustable flow. The package includes a carbon filter, pump, wall adaptor and quick-start guide. Its open-bowl design leaves water accessible when the power is off; circulation stops.
Why this model made the shortlist
The matching Amazon listing dates back to June 2011 and showed recent purchasing activity and stock when checked. That gives us more history to investigate than a newly launched listing, but does not guarantee future supply or how long an individual pump will last.
Plan the space around the fountain
The Amazon listing’s specification table gives 11.5 by 8 inches of floor space and 5.6 inches of height. Another product-details field gives different dimensions, so confirm the current seller’s measurements before ordering a tight-fitting mat or choosing a narrow corner. Do not confuse the fountain with the larger Drinkwell Platinum or other models in the range.
Our suggestion is to mark out the base with paper, then leave room for your pet to approach and turn. A station tucked into the only walking route may be inconvenient even when the base technically fits. Think through where you will lift it, empty it and take it apart before deciding where it belongs.
Cleaning the Drinkwell Multi-Tier
PetSafe’s model-specific instructions call for cleaning at least monthly, with more frequent cleaning potentially needed in multi-pet homes. That is a maintenance guideline, not a reason to leave visibly dirty water or parts unattended. The instructions recommend cleaning the pump and changing filters when cleaning the fountain.
Unplug it before dismantling. The plastic parts can be washed with warm soapy water or on the dishwasher’s top rack. The pump, adaptor and filters must stay out of the dishwasher. PetSafe provides separate instructions for taking the pump apart; rinsing only the bowl does not complete that job.
The pump guide also warns that mineral deposits can interfere with the impeller. If you have hard water, read that guide before treating a slowing pump as a failed pump. Follow the specified cleaning method rather than improvising with harsh chemicals.
Who should consider it—and who may prefer a bowl
The two levels make this a reasonable model to investigate when you want different drinking positions in one place. They do not establish that every cat or dog will prefer it. We would avoid treating the extra bowl as a guarantee that two pets will comfortably share the same station.
A plain bowl may suit you better if you dislike maintaining small parts, want no cable near the station or cannot commit to pump cleaning. Compare replacement-filter and pump availability as well as the initial purchase. Published specifications cannot tell us how noisy this particular unit will sound in your room.
Our verdict
Consider the Drinkwell Multi-Tier if you have a workable spot for it and are comfortable maintaining the pump. Choose it for its drinking layout, not a promise that it will solve every water-bowl problem. Check the exact model, dimensions, parts and current seller before buying.
