How to make room for a dog bed in a small living room
DOGS / SMALL-SPACE LIVING
A dog bed needs to fit two things: your dog and the spot where you plan to put it. Start with the dog, then work out the room.
Watch how your dog settles down
Does your dog usually curl up or stretch out? Make a note of the space they use while resting comfortably. Compare that with the manufacturer’s sizing guide. A bed that fits an empty corner is no bargain if its sleeping area is too small.
Check whether the measurements describe the outside of the bed or the usable cushion. Thick bolsters can take up part of the listed width.
Try the footprint before ordering
Outline the bed’s external dimensions with paper or floor-safe removable tape. Open the nearby doors and drawers. Carry a laundry basket through the room. Check that the proposed spot leaves the routes you actually use clear.
Check the cleaning instructions
“Washable” may refer only to a cover. Read what can go in the machine, the recommended wash settings and how each part should dry. Check that the removable cover will fit your machine and that you have somewhere to dry it.
Choose the spot with your dog in mind
Consider where your dog already likes to rest. Avoid blocking doors, heaters or the routes people need to use. If a bed requires moving furniture every evening, consider another arrangement before buying a smaller bed that does not fit your dog.
A short buying checklist
Before ordering, confirm the usable sleeping area, external dimensions, care instructions and return terms. If the listing leaves a measurement unclear, ask the seller. Keep the packaging until you have checked the fit.
